Shoot

linked by Justin Anderson

Warren Ellis is a damn fine comic writer. He used to do DC’s "Hellblazer" a few years ago, and wrote a one-issue story called "Shoot" as a response to increasing number of school shootings in the U.S. Artist Phil Jimenez pencilled and inked the whole 22-page issue, but DC higher-ups axed the story before it went to print for fear of offending readers’ post-Columbine sensibilities. Ellis walked off "Hellblazer" in protest, but an enterprising soul in the U.K. somehow scanned and posted the whole issue online. And don’t worry, you don’t need to know anything about "Hellblazer" to get it; it was designed to be a stand-alone story. DC has said it will never print this story in any form, which is a shame, because it’s goddamn brilliant.

"Shoot."
