Popular Songs Whose Titles Quickly Became Popular Sayings
mixed by Liam Eagle
PERFECT FOR:
Hipping yourself to how these kids are talking.
INTRODUCTION:
A significant part of what people call "cool," say those of us in the know, is knowing what to say. The "cool" folks always seem to know the right thing to say, whether it's "what's new, pussycat?" or "you ain't seen nothin' yet." But, while knowing what to say is certainly important, cool folks have plenty of other issues occupying their minds, like knowing what to wear and knowing what company to keep. The point is that while cool people have to know what to say, they don't really have time to think of what to say. Most of the thinking is usually left up to popular musicians. In fact, demonstrating the right things for cool people to say represents just over half the responsibilities of being a musician. This relationship is the reason that phrases so frequently make the transition from song title to popular saying.

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS:
I'm assuming, at this point, that you're not already considered "cool." Of course, I apologize for jumping to conclusions, but "come on, Eileen," let's be honest here. If you were already cool, then you'd already know all the right things to say, and you'd really have no use for this mix tape. The good news, however, is that this mix tape can make you cool. Well, actually, it can make you partly cool; the part where you always know the right thing to say. The other parts, like what to wear and what company to keep, you're likely going to have to figure out on your own. Or, you know, you might already have the right clothes and the right friends. I'm just saying this one mix tape is not going to make you class president in a day, okay?
LISTENING INSTRUCTIONS:
This isn't so much a kick-back-and-listen mix tape as it is a tool. The idea here is that you put it in your walkman and listen to it through your headphones Cyrano-style when a situation arises in which you need to know the right thing to say. Yeah, probably when you're talking to some chick or dude, depending on which one you're after.
