Songs With the Word "Rock" Volume 3

mixed by Liam Eagle

PERFECT FOR:

A minor contribution to a grand tradition.

INTRODUCTION:

Let me tell you something about Somethingspace. We're a pretty cutting-edge bunch of dudes putting this thing together, and we don't generally have much use for traditions. Now let me tell you something about traditions. Sometimes, my friends, traditions are all you've got. Sometimes when the world is looking shitty, it's tradition that can pull your ass out of the fire and bring you back down to the ground, which is below that fire, which was apparently up high (on a side note, rock and roll can do that too, man). So yeah, we have a couple of traditions here at Somethingspace. One of them is the Songs With the Word "Rock" series of mix tapes. Unfortunately, this is a tradition fueled by the limited resource of songs with the word "rock" in their titles. But fortunately, a little bit of searching and barrel-bottom scraping turned up enough of that resource to take this tradition for another spin. And guess what babies. It fucking rocks.

TRACK LISTING:

R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A - John Mellencamp
Rock & Roll Stew - Traffic
Kids Wanna Rock - Bryan Adams
Rockin' Down the Highway - Doobie Brothers
Sweet Little Rock & Roller - Rod Stewart
There's Only One Way to Rock - Sammy Hagar
Rock Show - Wings
Long Live Rock - The Who
I'm a Rocker - Bruce Springsteen
I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock & Roll Band) - Moody Blues
So You Want to Be a Rock & Roll Star - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Too Old to Rock & Roll, Too Young to Die - Jethro Tull

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Before you start preparing this tape, how about you prepare yourself? Becuase you are about to get rocked, dudes, and that just might require you to have prepared yourself. Okay? And let me get something else straight. When I said "barrel-bottom scraping" earlier, I was just using a figure of speech. This is not some group of third-string rock and rollers. These guys are the fucking heavyweights. Yeah. Bruce Springsteen? Maybe you've heard of him. Tom Petty? John Mellencamp? The Doobies? These guys are the heart and soul of America, which, by the way, is the homeland of rock and roll. So anyway, get ready first. And then make the tape after that. And if you can, make it in America, or, as Mellencamp says, the U.S.A.

LISTENING INSTRUCTIONS:

You know, now that I think of it, you'd better prepare yourself for the listening portion of this operation too, because this music is going to take a lot of energy. Eat some carbs, or whatever, dude. Crack open a couple of brews. Stand up in the back of your pickup. Take off your shirt. Fuck it. Give everybody the finger. Set off some fucking fireworks. And, most of all, take pride in the fact that you are participating in a great tradition. Also, maybe smoke some weed or something.
