Ultimate Love

mixed by Liam Eagle

PERFECT FOR:

Seduction, Break-ups, Make-ups, Make-outs, Staring wistfully through apartment windows.

INTRODUCTION:

Love is probably the most enjoyable of human emotions, and perhaps the most productive. In addition to making us feel good, it fuels our artistic endeavors, necessitates daring and awesome rescues, inspires us to be better people and so on. Everyone should get some love. And it's really not that difficult, when you use the right tools. Of course, I'm talking about popular music. You might not realize it, but a lot of the best human interaction around is founded on pre-packaged sentiment borrowed from pop songs. Now, I'm not talking about some of the new music out there. Trust me, the world does not need the kind of love that would result from "she bangs, she bangs." I'm talking about music from a few years ago, by dudes that sounded, and kind of looked, like women. Sensitive dudes. The music of sensitive lady-dudes, my friends, is the music of ultimate love.

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Maybe you think borrowed sentiment is phony, or that real love comes from within you, not from within an Air Supply CD. Wrong. Touching, emotional music has touching, emotional lyrics for the same reason that there is a greeting card industry. It's not that you didn't think "I am a man who will fight for your honor." It's just that, maybe, you didn't have time to sit down and and write a ballad about it. I mean, it's not like Peter Cetera put up all the drywall at that new Wal-Mart. But he can still shop there, right? We all do our thing, and that's what makes our capitalist democracy work. Trust me, if all you had to do was sit at a fucking piano all day, you'd write some sweet love songs too.

LISTENING INSTRUCTIONS:

What we're really doing here is trying to get you some love. And this "Ultimate Love" mix tape is designed to do just that. It's like a finely-mixed love elixir. Powerful stuff. So be careful how you use it. Don't throw it in the tape deck while you're getting ready to go out to a nightclub or something. Put it on in the car as you put it in park up on make-out hill. Or pull the old "dim the lights and press play" as you seal the deal at your pad. Now, some people might freak out or start laughing at this particular selection of songs. These people are fucking losers, and are not deserving of your love. In that sense, "Ultimate Love" is kind of like a finely-mixed love elixir and a loser filter at the same time. How sweet is that?
